With 5 camp dates spread out in the span of 7 days, it was quite the busy week for Ball State Head Football Coach Brady Hoke and his staff. Factor in a record 1,500 participants in those 5 camps along with soring temperatures and it was truly amazing to see the camps go off so smoothly.
Ball State saw 470 kids show up for the camp on the Ball State campus Friday. A large majority of the players at the Ball State camp are of division 1 caliber making that leg of the tour the best. Not to downgrade the rest of the legs as every site was guaranteed to have some good competition for athletes wanting to get better as well as an opportunity to shine in front of college coaches from varying levels.
Ball State tells it's campers that the Ball State camp is ". . . NOT a combine, nor is it a limited recruiting day. It is a working camp for all football players who want to improve on the fundamentals and techniques of football." And right from the get go this was apparent as Ball State Wide Receivers coach and recruiting coordinator Jeff Hecklinski told the group of players prior to the start of camp:
"This camp will be run in very much the same way as a typical Ball State practice."
And it certainly was. Players were grouped positionally and ran through several drills that pertained to their position. That was followed by 1-on-1 drills and finally the night was capped off with a 7-on-7 run through for all of the skill players.
