Posted Jan 14, 2008

Three of the 2007 Ball State Cardinal players were selected to various All-American teams.

MUNCIE, Ind. -- Darius Hill (Blue Springs, Mo./Blue Springs H.S.) and Dante Love (Cincinnati, Ohio/Withrow H.S.) were named to the College Sports Report All-America Second Team, while Chris Miller (Libertyville, Ill./Carmel H.S.) was selected to the CollegeFootballNews.com All-America Third Team.

Hill set a Ball State single-season record with 11 touchdown receptions in 2007, breaking the previous record of 10, which he shared with Dante Ridgeway (2003) and Brian Oliver (1993). The Ball State junior, managed 65 receptions for 926 yards last season. The 65 catches tie for the fifth highest single-season mark in school history, while the 926 yards ranks as the sixth best single-season total in BSU annals. Hill has 1,803 career receiving yards, which ranks sixth in Ball State history, while his 24 touchdown catches ties for the Ball State career record.

Love, a Ball State junior on the 2007 football team, led the Cardinals with 100 catches for 1,398 yards and 10 touchdowns. His 100 catches ranks as the second best single-season mark in Ball State’s record books, while the 1,398 yards was one short of tying the school’s single-season record of 1,399 by Ridgeway (2004). Love has 2,318 career receiving yards, which ranks second in Ball State’s record books to only the 3,030 by Ridgeway (2002-04). He has 171 career receptions and 17 career touchdown receptions to rank second and fourth, respectively, in Ball State history.

Miller, a junior punter for the Cardinals who was named to the American Football Coaches Association All-America First Team earlier this season, completed the 2007 season ranked third in the country with a 45.44 punting average. Miller had 61 punts for 2,772 yards this season with a long punt of 65 yards. Of his 61 punts, 23 were placed inside the opponent’s 20-yard line, 10 were touchbacks and opponent’s had to fair catch six of them. Miller’s 45.4 average ranks as the sixth best single-season mark in school history, while his 45.04 career punt average ranks as the best ever in Ball State history.

Hill and Love also received honorable mention on the CollegeFootballNews.com team.

The Cardinals finished the 2007 season with a 7-6 overall record, a Mid-American Conference West Division Co-Championship and a trip to the International Bowl in Toronto, Canada. The bowl appearance was the first for the Ball State football program since a trip to the Las Vegas Bowl in 1996.

Ball State will open the 2008 season Thurs., Aug. 28, at Scheumann Stadium vs. Northeastern, and then will host Navy Sat., Sept. 6.
