BSU players honored by the MAC

The Cardinals RB & DE were named Mid-American Conference's offensive and special teams players of the week because of their performances against Navy.

Junior halfback MiQuale Lewis of the Ball State football team was named Mid-American Conference West Division Offensive Player of the Week while sophomore defensive end Brandon Crawford was named the MAC West Division Special Teams Player of the Week. Both were recognized for their performances in the Cardinals 34-31 overtime victory at Navy Saturday.

Lewis tallied a total of 178 all-purpose yards, which included a touchdown off of 29 touches in the Ball State victory. Lewis rushed for 161 yards on 27 carries and caught two passes for 17 yards. Lewis' 12-yard touchdown reception with 3:53 left in the game, tied the score at 31-31. With the help of Lewis' running game the Cardinals totaled 262 yards and 15 first downs via the ground.

Crawford blocked the potential game winning field goal as time expired in regulation to send the game into overtime for Ball State. Crawford managed seven tackles, including one tackle for loss, one forced fumble and one pass break up. Crawford a 31-year old defensive end, was formerly in the Marines before receiving an honorable discharge in 2003. He went to Military Occupational Specialties school and then to the Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point in Havelock, N.C.

This marks the first MAC Player of the Week honor for Lewis and Crawford.

The Cardinals travel to No. 22/24 Nebraska on Saturday. Recommended Stories
