Cardinal Commit Capsule: Grant Williamson

Cardinal Commit Capsule: Grant Williamson

Ball State finds small school stud with big time skills.

Commit: Grant Williamson, 6-4 270, New Carlisle, IN (New Prairie)

Why Ball State: “The coaching staff made me feel part of a family and I have a dedication to something larger than myself. Coach (Pete) Lembo has had great success on and off the field. I feel very grateful to have the chance to play for Coach Lembo and (Offensive Line Coach John) Strollo. I am looking forward to playing with a great group of teammates. I couldn't ask for a better place to call home.”

Interest/Offers: Offer from Central Michigan.

Scouting Report: Williamson looks on film like a versatile defensive lineman. He has solid quickness and a great get off at the snap. He has a good frame to work with at 6-4 and 270 and could get even bigger if he is destined to be inside. I am not 100% sure that will happen though. As Ball State gives more multiple looks, Williamson has tools to play the 5 technique DE in a 3-4 defense or swing in as a 3 technique DT especially in passing situations. Williamson is disruptive at his level of competition, getting in the backfield and dominating with regularity. Not a gifted pass rusher from his inside spot, but he can hold an edge on the outside or wreak havoc inside once he gets stronger. Recommended Stories
