Local QB Gets First Offers

Ball State and Indiana State are the first two programs to extend an offer to Indiana QB

As one of the top QBs in Indiana in the Class of 2015, Yorktown's Riley Neal had to wait longer than most expected to pick up his first offer. But that wait is now over as Ball State, the hometown school, extended an offer to the 6-5 200 gunslinger.

"It is a really nice feeling, something I have been wanting since I was in the 8th grade," Neal said. "It's also kind of special because not only are they a school in my home town, but my dad (Jess) and my uncle (Jay) both played there in college."

To add to the local flavor of the offer, the news was given to Neal by Ball State Offensive Coordinator and former Delta High School QB Joey Lynch.

"My high school coach told me that Coach Lynch wanted me to call him and so I did during lunch," Neal said. "He told me he'd looked and watched guys all around the country recently and he thought I was as good as anyone he saw and that they wanted to offer me a scholarship to play at Ball State. Then I spoke to Coach (Pete) Lembo briefly after that."

Neal, who threw for over 2,700 yards and 35 touchdowns, can easily expect more offers to come his way as such schools as Michigan, Miami (FL), Georgia, Rutgers, Akron and Indiana are recruiting him.

With the pressure of securing his first two offers (Illinois State also offer this week) out of the way, Neal can now focus on summer and showcasing his talents in front of college coaches.

"I'm not sure yet I need to sit down and talk to my family about it," Neal said of his summer plans. "I'll be at one of Ball State's camps though for sure."Stay tuned to the Ball State Insider for all of your Ball State football and basketball news.
