Neidig Chooses Southern

2013 North Posey (Ind.) High punter talks about making his college decision and more inside.

2013 North Posey (Ind.) High punter Nick Neidig made it official and committed to Southern Illinois.

I chose Southern Illinois because it is the right academic fit and social setting," Neidig said. "During my visit, my host and the coaching staff made me feel like I was already part of the team."

Neidig's visit was one of the reasons that helped seal the deal for Southern.

My favorite part of my visits at Southern Illinois was meeting Dr. Farraro, the chair of the physiology department," Neidig said. "He gave me insight over the next 4-10 years of school will be like and how to best get into Medical School."

In the short term though, Neidig can't wait to get to Southern Illinois.

"I will be headed there in June," Neidig said. "Which is very exciting. I will be working out with the team while taking 6 credit hours this summer."

And the 6-foot-3, 205 pound punter knows that Southern Illinois fans should be just as excited about the coming years as he is.

"Saluki fans should be excited for the direction that this program is headed," Neidig said. "Coach Lennon and his staff have been able to recruit top talent in the nation this year. Playoffs are expected in the near future."

Until June, Neidig hopes to get even better at his craft.

"I am spending a lot of time working on my punting this off season. I work with Joe Hermes of Athletics Performance Institute of Indiana to develop core strength, agility, explosiveness, and flexibility four days per week," Neidig said. "Additionally, I have been preparing to compete in the Chris Sailer National Event in Vegas January 18-20 to keep my punting skills in tune." Recommended Stories
