Cooper still looking at Ball State

Cooper still looking at Ball State

Ball State is looking to close out its 2013 Class in a big way – among those the Cardinals are still eyeing is a big time WR from a powerhouse Florida High School.

After transferring from University Lab in Baton Rouge, Tristan Cooper knew he had only one season to prove himself at Florida's powerhouse, Tampa Plant High School.

Although Plant's season ended sooner than he would have liked with a loss to Dr. Phillips High School, Tristan stepped right into the starting lineup and had a solid Senior season hauling in 20 catches for over 500 yards and three touchdowns.

Cooper's success has landed him a slew of FBS level offers and he is starting to gain interest from several BCS programs. The 6-0 175 WR has gained offers from Arkansas State, Ball State, Bowling Green, Columbia, East Carolina, Florida Atlantic, Harvard, Iowa State, Middle Tennessee State, Southern Illinois, Western Michigan & Southern. One school at the top of list is Ball State.

"I love Ball State," Cooper said. "They are definitely one of my top schools. Coach (Keith) Gaither is my kind of coach. He's a real down to earth, straight forward guy. He doesn't tell you what you want to hear, he tells you the truth and that's a big thing for me."

Cooper was able to already make an unofficial visit to Muncie, and came away impressed.

"The campus shocked me honestly," Cooper said. "I wasn't expecting it to look the way it did. I thought it was really cool how you can travel throughout the different buildings exclusively indoors. Also the academics impressed me as far as the things that they do with what they call Immersive Learning, which I thought were very neat."

Tristan plans on taking another visit to Ball State this time for an official visit, but has yet to finalize a date.

Other schools high on Tristan's list are Florida Atlantic, Middle Tennessee State, Iowa State, Western Michigan and Bowling Green. Don't expect a decision from Tristan any time soon. He wants to keep his options open and is just "playing everything by ear at this point."
